Accessibility Notes & Considerations

  • DT Verified (Room): During a previous stay, we stayed in a Crystal Lagoon Swim-Up Suite. The room layout is split roughly 50/50 between the bedroom and a large patio area that leads directly to the swim-up pool. While the outdoor space is spacious and accessible, the interior bedroom area can feel somewhat compact, particularly at night when the patio doors are closed. The bathroom was highly accessible, featuring a roll-in shower with a handheld showerhead, a shower bench provided by the resort, a roll-under sink, and a separate toilet room equipped with grab bars.
  • DT Verified (Property): During a previous stay, we found the overall property to be highly accessible, with flat, step-free pathways connecting the majority of the resort, including guest rooms, restaurants, and pool areas. There were a couple of areas that may present challenges depending on individual ability. At Kimonos (hibachi-style dining), seating is at a raised communal table. We transferred from a wheelchair to a higher chair to be at table height; remaining in a wheelchair may make dining more difficult or feel awkward due to the height difference. The resort also features a curved bridge over the pool near the swim-up suites, which has a noticeable incline. While it was manageable, it may require additional effort and could be challenging for some travelers. A beach wheelchair is available at the resort, though we did not personally use it. There are no pool lifts, so entry into the pools requires a ground transfer.
  • Sandals Barbados provides a limited but relatively detailed overview of accessibility features, particularly for its accessible guest rooms.
  • According to the resort, there are three accessible rooms (2 LX and 1 SLX) designed to accommodate wheelchair users. These rooms include features such as roll-in showers, grab bars located next to the toilet and within the shower, lowered sinks, and accessible vanities. Additional details provided by the resort include approximately 32-inch doorways, a 37-inch shower opening, grab bars on three shower walls, a vanity height of 34 inches, and a 5-foot turning radius within the bathroom.
  • The resort also notes that a selection of on-site restaurants are wheelchair accessible, including Portofino, Soy, Kimonos, Butch’s Chop House, and others. Additionally, two standard wheelchairs and one beach wheelchair are available for guest use, and the beach itself is described as accessible.
  • However, beyond these details, limited information is provided regarding accessibility across the broader resort, including pathways between buildings, access to pools, and step-free navigation throughout the property.
  • While the available room-level information is more detailed than what many Caribbean resorts provide, the limited number of accessible rooms and lack of clarity around overall property accessibility make it important for travelers to confirm specific needs directly with the resort prior to booking.
  • Travelers with specific accessibility needs are encouraged to contact the resort directly to confirm room configurations and accessible routes.
  • As with many Caribbean resorts, accessibility standards and consistency can vary, even within the same property.

Barbados was overall very accessible.

At the airport, boarding and deplaning were handled via a motorized lift, which made getting on and off the plane smooth and stress-free.
